Flea market help for needy

NON-profit organisation Helping Those In Need  held a week-long flea market recently in 6 Jarvis Road, Berea to help families and children they are caring for.

On sale was a variety of items such as children’s clothing, toys, adult clothes, and books.

Founder Marion Peake said she hoped the week’s initiative would  sustain their organisation  for a while.

“We aim to rehabilitate those in need,  not just through clothing and feeding them, but also through having a positive attitude and heart,” she said.

“We also have something as simple as underwear which one can take for granted, as well as nappies,” she added.

Shopper  Karen Ferreira said that this was a commendable initiative and everyone should assist.

“I run a pre-school so I bought some things that my kids can use. One can also meet people at the same time while helping others,” she said.

She encouraged  more people to come and see the items on offer  and  to  bring their staff along, when attending such initiatives.

Peake is a finalist in the Regional Business Women’s Awards 2018 in the Social Entrepreneur category.

The awards ceremony will take place later this month.
