TO commemorate Nelson Mandela’s centenary year, the Eastern Cape Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) , along with Buffalo City Metro Municipality (BCMM), held various sports activities at the Gompo Hall in Duncan Village on Monday.

Thulani Mhlubulwana of Buffalo City Boxing Federation said that the participants were from different local schools in the region.
The schools that took part were Lumko primary school, Masakhe Primary School, Pefferville Primary School, Nompumelelo Primary School, to name a few.
“We had sporting activities such as boxing, street soccer, music performances , entertaining netball games and many more. This was also a way to keep young people away from drugs and crime. Sport is the way to do that,” said Mhlubulwana.
He added that, on Tuesday, they visited the participating schools with the local icon, Welcome Ncita, a retired professional boxer and former IBF Super Bantamweight Champion from Mdantsane.
