“We have always wanted to come to East London because we have seen some strong talent. For this VJ Search, we are looking for someone who’s going to stand out, someone with presence  who has some sort of youthfulness about them – a person who that can connect with an audience, someone who is relatable,” said Viacom International Media Networks Africa Senior Marketing and Digital Director, Chris Torline.

“It makes sense for us to be here on in our search for the next superstar. We have changed so many lives, matured and grown with them,” said Torline.

Breezer spokesperson Innocent Taliwe said the next VJ winner was going to would be awarded with a trip for two to Thailand.

“We are looking for someone who that lives in colour, someone bold and fun,” Taliwe said.

2017 VJ Search winner Tshepo Koke said: “I cried when I won because winning the search was not just for me alone, but for me and my family. I went through an emotional phase where we didn’t have money for bread at home.  and my mother would have to bake bread. I will always be grateful for winning and the opportunities it gave me.”

He advised those who did not make it through to the callbacks, to invest in their craft.

“You only get better with time. Remain positive and keep investing in your craft. Explore more of what will make you understand who you are and what you are trying to do. And to those that got the opportunity to go through, I would say to understand that the judges want you to be yourself and to always understand that the nerves are gonna be there, and if they are that means you care about what you do,” said Koke.

Sinovuyo Bolintulo, Mesuli Ndibaza, Aside Swasi, as well as Anitha Rulu of East London made it through to the top-25 callbacks.

The winner of the VJ Search will get a 12-month contract with MTV Base, a year’s supply of Breezer, as well as a brand new Fiat Tipo worth more than over R300,000.

The top two will be announced revealed after the Johannesburg auditions on August 18. The first episode will air on August 29 on MTV Base Channel 322.
