Dance competition to get Mdantsane moving

Lovers of dance can look forward to Kings and Queens of Street Dance Monti that will take place at Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre on October 6.

Organiser Lumko Dukashe said the competition was aimed at those the aged 18 to 35.

“There is so much talent in our townships and I just want to be able to put it out there,” Dukashe said.

Dukashe was a producer for the five-time South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) winning show Tsha Tsha in 2006, together with his wife, Luleka, who is a two-time Safta nominee for costume design.

Those wanting to compete, must upload a video of themselves onto the Facebook page “Kings and Queens of Street Dance Monti” and the videos with the most likes will qualify for the competition.

“We wanted to use the technological and social aspect this particular age group are will be familiar with,” he said.

If you can’t upload to Facebook, then don’t worry. Entries will also be accepted on the day between 10am and 12pm

DJ Slujah of Umhlobo Wenene FM will be the host while DJ Lentor SA and DJ Setman are but a few confirmed to DJs that will be spinning the decks. for the eager dancers. Winners will receive a cash prize of R5,000.
