A taste of Afro-French

The Alliance Française East London will host their annual So Chef! dinner on Saturday at Key Largo Restaurant in Hemingways with French chef, Khalid Kasimi.

Kasimi will partner up with local chef, Shaun Gibb of Tsogo Sun.

Alliance director, Aline Driessel said following the success of last year’s edition, the menu this year consists of an Afro-French cuisine.

French Chefs will travel to South Africa and Lesotho and participate in gastronomic experiences in seven cities where the Alliance Française network is located,” Driessel said.

Kasimi, based in Stockholm, said his food philosophy is about working and respecting the gift of ingredients that the earth gives us.

He added that as a young cook, he was obsessed by French techniques such as “simply deboning whole chicken”.

I could not find it anywhere else than in old French cookbooks from the legends of French cuisine such as Auguste Escoffier, Taillevent and Marie-Antoine Carême to mention a few,” Kasimi said.

The evening promises to be an adventure for the taste buds and pallate, as guests did into a three course menu. Alliance Française members price is R300 whilst it’s R350 for non members and a cash bar will be available.

The event is 6:30pm for 7pm and bookings are essential at afeastlondon@gmail.com or on WhatsApp to 072-196-4445, dress code is smart. Bookings must be done by 6pm today.
