A large crowd gathered at Wetherd MX Park in Kayser’s Beach over the weekend for the Wetherd Racing Throttle Day 2018. The event was staged to raise funds for Aidan Rutherford, 28, who has is suffering with mature T cell lymphoma cancer and has suffered a relapse from leukemia.

Event organiser Shan Rutherford said this was the first annual event at the venue.

“We were hoping for a turnout of 50 to 100 people and ended up having a crowd of approximately 500, which was beyond our expectations,” said Rutherford.

“We raised approximately R30,000 that will be utilised for medical care.  We would like to thank everyone for the support, especially our team and sponsors. Without them, we would not have achieved what we did”, he said.
