Cantata Choir celebrates Christmas in harmony

The East London Cantata Choir will be presenting “Night of Miracles”  on Sunday at St Johns Anglican Church at 4pm. “The presentation is a beautiful, harmonious work by John W. Peterson relaying the story of Christ’s Birth, said secretary of the choir Yvonne Daniels.

The choir was formed in the early 1970s when a group of singers decided to form a choir which would provide musical entertainment for the local community. As a non-profit organisation, it has presented many oratorio and choir performances around East London.

Over the years, the choir performed both sacred and secular music, which for the past nine years has been under the direction of Dr Bruce Johnson.

The main aim of the choir is to give people who enjoy singing a chance to perform as part of an organised group, as well as providing cultural music to East London audiences,” Daniels said.

While there is no entry fee to the concerts, donations are welcome from those attending to but in order to cover costs such as the printing and copying of music and the venue use”, she said.
