The department of sport, recreation, arts and culture (Dsrac) has so far released a total of R29m in subsidies to local and metropolitan municipalities for the provision of library services.
Part of Dsrac’s responsibilities includes the funding of municipal libraries and every financial year, part of the budget is put aside for such a purpose. The subsidies are paid in July every year at the start of the financial year.
Despite one municipality having to wait until February 5 due to an incorrect application, all funding for 2018-19 is set to arrive as planned.
To apply for the library subsidy, municipalities have to submit copies of a signed memorandum of agreement, annual report, audit report, audit intervention plan, audited financial statements, confirmation of internal controls, business plan, and expenditure report of the previous subsidy.
