Mdantsane hopefuls to strut stuff in pageant

The annual Miss and Mr Mdantsane beauty pageant will take place today at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre.

Event manager Siyasanga Zwakala said the pageant started in 2009, the year in which when he won the title. He took over the hosting of the event in 2011.

“In 2019, This year we are introducing new categories, plus-size models and slot for a fashion fashion show. We will be providing a platform for local fashion designers to showcase their designs.

“Contestants will compete in four outfits: traditional, casual, formal wear and school uniforms.” said Zwakala.

He said there will be a guest judge , Luthuli Dlamini, who is an actor known for his roles in soapies such as Uzalo and Generations will be the guest judge.

“It is such a great honour having a person in the entertainment industry who will be witnessing the talent that Mdantsane produces,”  Zwakala said.

In 2018, Last year, the winners walked away with prizes valued at R3,000.

Annual beauty pageant aims to uplift youth

Sakhisizwe Senior High School pupil Sinesipho Melani, 17, was crowned Miss Mdantsane High School 2018 and while Mzomhle High School pupil Milisa Maliwa, 17, nabbed the Mr Mdantsane High School 2018 title.

Zwakala said in 2018 last year they had 70 contestants and they are expecting the number to increase this year.
