East London local Wade Wright hopes to take first place in the upcoming South African National Motocross Championship at Zone 7 in Cape Town on March 30.

Wright started racing at the age of three, but stopped when he was at age 13 when he lost his dad.

“I got back into biking at the age of 22 and I’ve been riding ever since. I’m currently ranked third in the 30+ class,” he said.

Nationally, he competes using a KTM 450 SX bike in the vet Vets class against where there about 16 other riders in the category.

Locally, he competed in six races in 2018 at the Border Motocross Track in Gonubie and came in first place in all the races.

“I compete in MX 1 class in the province. I competed in a supercross race in Port Elizabeth last year in October 2018 and I was placed first in my class,” he said.

“I already have two wonderful sponsors – Thesen’s Generators and Go Store It Park. However, I need more sponsorship, however, and would be happy with the little that can be provided,” Wright said.
