Classical effort for Buckaroo

Viva Musica Ensemble will be hosting a concert at Nahoon Methodist Church on Saturday June 8.

The concert will be raising money for the Buckaroo Sterilisation Project and will include music from classical composers, such as Handel, Brahms and Saint-Saëns, as well as contemporary tunes, such as If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof.

Kwanele Gingqi will be one of the guest singers performing alongside Viva Musica. The accomplished baritone was trained in Cape Town, as well as in the UK, and has performed with the Gauteng Opera Company. He has also conducted choirs at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) and Buffalo City College.

Gingqi will be accompanied on piano by Lynette Nel who is a talented musician in her own right. Nel has accompanied John Fletcher in Best of the West End and is the keyboardist in the wedding trio Music from the Heart.

The second guest artist will be the Cambridge High School choir – Canto Armonico – will also perform at the concert. The choir consists of 19 girls and is conducted by Cambridge head of music Lidia Tzoneva.

They will be accompanied by Dr Bruce Johnson, the organist and choir master at St Johns Anglican Church, as well as East London Cantata Choir conductor.
