Cambridge SAPS Capt Steve Du Rand was placed fifth in the over-50s division at the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation 2019 Championships in Midrand, in Gauteng, recently.
The competition saw more than over 3000 participants from 17 countries taking part.
“I started to prepare for the competition in August last year.
“I had to change my lifestyle during the preparation period.
“I had to change my diet to basmati rice, chicken and fish and I had to do cardio exercises for an hour in the morning along with an hour-and-a-half of heavy training in the evening,” Du Rand said.
He said that his wife and son had given him gave me a lot of support.
Du Rand believes the SAPS benefits from officers competing in these kind of tournaments because it shows that local police can compete on a global stage.
He said he was thrilled with achieving fifth place, and that he had also shed unwanted body fat. his biggest joy was being able to burn his body fat and achieving fifth place.
Cambridge station commander Brig. Pumla Mdlankomo was full of praise for the this veteran.
“We pride ourselves on this feat achieved by Capt Du Rand, he is a motivation to all of us,” said Mdlankomo said.
