In an impressive display of skill and determination, the young badminton players from the Border U13 team showcased their talent at the U13 regional tournament held in Gqeberha on May 27.
The tournament served as a steppingstone for their upcoming participation in the SA U13 Championships, scheduled to take place in Alberton from July 8-14.
This preliminary competition contributed to their individual and team rankings, allowing them to earn valuable grading points for the upcoming national event.
The Border U13 players competed in a series of challenging games, demonstrating their prowess on the court. Aaron George and Lyn Williams emerged as the stars of the tournament, both securing impressive triple titles.
Williams claimed victory in the singles category and also triumphed in the doubles event alongside Bella Kretzmann. Additionally, Williams partnered with George to claim victory in the mixed doubles.
George also excelled in the singles category, as well as the doubles event with his partner, Viwe Sityebi. Their exceptional performances showcased their dedication and skill, earning them well-deserved recognition.
Throughout the tournament, the players faced various challenges on the court. However, with the unwavering support of their parents, the Border U13 team overcame these obstacles with determination and resilience, allowing them to perform at their best.
The parents’ encouragement and assistance proved crucial in creating a nurturing environment.
Despite having started playing only last year, these talented individuals have demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and discipline, training rigorously to refine their skills.
At the SA Championships in July, they will compete against top-level opponents from across the country.
