The department of health (DOH) has announced that a second case of the COVID-19 coronavirus has been confirmed in South Africa.
The patient, a 39 year-old woman from Gauteng, was part of a 10-person group who travelled to Italy, along with the first patient.
DOH assured members of the public that it has information and knows the current whereabouts of all members of the travel group, who are all being tested.
Test results have not been released at the time of writing.
The second patient has been admitted to a public health facility in Gauteng that has been set up to receive other COVID-19 patients in the future.
Another South African, a 39 year-old male working in Daegu, South Korea, has also tested positive for the virus. He is currently being treated in South Korea and the DOH said they are liaising with South Korean officials to obtain further details.
The department asked that the privacy of the patients, affected individuals as well as their families be respected.
