Earlier this year, the SPCA reached out via social media requesting help after five of their fleet vehicles could not be used anymore due to wear and tear.
D&T Servicing in Cambridge responded to this request and, in collaboration with Midas Bowls Road and Accredited Towing, they were able to get the fleet back up and running.
Servicing the vehicles included clutch replacement, attending to suspension issues and cooling system issues.
MIWA East London vice-chairperson, Teresa Spenser-Higgs said: “As businesses it is our responsibility to give back to the community that supports us.
“Times are tough for everyone, but we each can help with our little bit our combined efforts can make a huge impact. Animal organisations receive very little funding, and are facing tough times.”
SPCA representative Margaret Pautz said the servicing of the fleet has enabled the organisation to return to providing the services they had to compromise on while transport was unavailable.
The SPCA conducts home checks and attends to injured and missing animals on scene among other functions and this is impossible to do without vehicles.
To continue their important work, the SPCA relies on donations and support, especially with respect to food, dog beds, blankets, medication bills and generator costs. Please contact the SPCA for more information: 043 745 1441
