Ever since stepping away from wrestling, John Cena has managed to solidify himself as a comedic actor and this impression has only strengthened with his latest role in Vacation Friends 2.
The first Vacation Friends film came out in 2021, introducing us to Ron (Cena) and his wife, Kyla (Meredith Hagner) and Marcus (Lil Rel Howery) and his wife, Emily (Yvonne Orji).
Vacation Friends 2 follows a similar premise, introducing us to some new characters, all of whom contribute to the comedic success of this sequel.
In the first film, Marcus and Emily travel for a vacation in Mexico where they meet extroverted and carefree couple Ron and Kyla. While in Mexico, they get into some crazy antics that involve drinking, partying and jumping off cliffs.
At the end of the vacation, when they go back home, Marcus and Emily try to put the trip behind them, but when their new friends follow them home, the chaos continues.
In the second film, the couples meet in the Caribbean for another vacation, this time they deal with Kyla’s problematic father.
The gang finds themselves inadvertently participating in criminal activities and in the process, learn more about themselves and each other.
It is a fun film filled with hilarious subtle and over-the-top comedy. Cena and Hagner complement each other incredibly well, and their chemistry is fun to watch.
Howery and Orji play the careful, and safe roles convincingly. Both films are shot on location and the directors utilised the tropical beaches and jungles to create appealing films.
Most of the jokes are for an older audience so it would be advised to turn this movie on after lights out for younger members of your household.
Both Vacation Friends films are available to watch on Hulu.
