Comedy duo Lisa Bobbert and Aaron Mcilroy are bringing their hilarious cabaret comedy show ‘Bulletproof’ to the Guild Theatre from 24 – 26 October.
The main theme for the show is survival in a South African setting and looks at how South Africans overcome challenges and ultimately thrive.
Bobbert expressed her excitement for the upcoming show, saying that will be performing a ‘musical comedy cabaret’
“Every year we write a new comedy musical cabaret, and we try and keep it up to date and relevant to what’s happening around us. We were discussing various topics and came up with the idea of a survival guide for people living in South Africa. As South Africans were so resilient and we need to be,” said Bobbert.
Bulletproof won an Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival earlier this year.
The couple has worked together for 30 years and have made a name for themselves as one of the country’s funniest duos as a result of their ability to deliver comedy through sketches, some song and dance and colourful stage characters.
The show will be directed and choreographed by Daisy Spencer.
Mcilroy says their main inspiration for their content is life in general.
“We’re inspired by life because most things can make you laugh if you look at them in a funny way. They say comedy is tragedy from a distance. Everything is potentially controversial. People are easily offended these days. We always ask ourselves ‘Is this funny to us?’ and then trust that the audience will get it.
Some other shows that the pair has showcased include Bloopers Family Therapy and Go Big!
The show will run from Tuesday, October 24 to Thursday, October 26. Tickets are R180 for general and R160 for pensioners, and students, available through Computicket.
