Internationally acclaimed sailor Kirsten Neuschäfer will be presenting a special motivational talk at Meyers Motors showroom on Saturday, November 4. The fundraising event has been arranged in aid of Kings Childrens Home, an organisation that takes care of abandoned babies and children.

At a cost of R500 per person, guests will get the chance to listen to Neuschäfer share her inspirational stories of her adventures around the world.

Neuschäfer has made a name for herself as a solo sailor specializing in high latitude and high adventure sailing.  She has been sailing since her childhood but has been sailing professionally since 2006.

In May this year, she became the first woman to win the Golden Globe Race, a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the world by sail.

Kings Children Home has been operating since 2008 by married couple Tracy and Jonathan King. They have been working tirelessly over the years.

Some of the challenges faced by the organisation include the high running costs of the organisation like food, nappies and educational supplies.

Kings Childrens Home receives no government financial assistance and relies heavily on these types of fundraising.

Tracy King expressed her gratitude and excitement for Neuschäfer choosing Kings Childrens Home as a beneficiary for the fundraising.

“It is very challenging running an NPO because there are so many of us and we are all in need of resources. Having a world-renowned person like Kirsten Neuschäfer come and give a talk at our aid helps a lot. We trust that the people of East London will support us. We will have great food, wine and a motivational talk, it will be worth it,” said King.

King hopes the evening will raise R100,000 for the abandoned babies and small children in their care.

Trail runner Kim van Kets will conduct the evening, with great wine from the Hazendal Wine Estate and canapés by Jon Liesching, assisted by students from the Blue Ribbon Chef School.
