Successful baker starts classes to share skills

Siya Vetyeka has created a successful brand for himself in the baking industry with his stunning and delicious baked goods with his small business, Paprika Dreams. With this success, Vetyeka has decided to share his skills with others by offering baking classes.

In these classes, the talented baker teaches his students how to bake cakes from scratch, making and colouring buttercream, crumb coating, leveling and cake decorating.

He also teaches about ganache ratios, stenciling the cake and fondant techniques.

Vetyeka says the classes are a new idea that he’s implementing in 2024.

“I never considered starting classes. I was mainly focused on the service side but so many people started to plant the idea into my mind that why not teach because my work is good looking, and the taste is heavenly.

“So, this year I thought why not give it a shot,” Vetyeka said.

Public response has already been great as he has already received bookings for February and March.

The classes are intimate, at three people at a time, to ensure that each person leaves the class with a clear understanding of what they are doing.

According to Vetyeka, creating the perfect sponge cake is the most important skill a beginner baker needs.

“The sponge will be the most important thing to master. The reason for that is that the decorations are not easy to grasp,” Vetyeka said.

They also get to go home with their creations and a pack of six cupcakes for their efforts.

“My baking classes are unique because I am a product of many bakers that are very good in the field. My mom, who mentors me, Natalie from Gosh cakes, who has more experience in the field than anyone I know of, and Sis Fundi who also mentored me. I will be mixing my skills with their techniques to make these classes less complicated for others to help them bring out the best product,” he said.

While he hopes to expand on the classes, Vetyeka has no plans of neglecting his baking business and aims to continue producing delicious works of edible art.

“I just want to produce as many bakers and hire some, as we aim to expand and create jobs for other people. I don’t want to keep this skill to myself. I want many people to be able to provide for their families,” he said.
