Two Stirling High School majorettes, Josey Mauer and Ilka De Lange, have made their community proud by excelling on the national and global stage.

The talented duo competed in the 2024 SAMCA National Championships and the MWF World Championships, held in Cape Town, showcasing their exceptional skills over a thrilling six-day event.

De Lange, who previously participated in the MWF World Championships, returned stronger this year, joined by Mauer, to achieve a remarkable fourth place for their mace group. Their outstanding performances didn’t stop there — guided by coach Calista Stanton, the pair also secured two silver medals, one gold, and one bronze at the national level, earning them a commendable fourth place overall in the prestigious President’s League.

Majorettes, often referred to as “drummies”, is a highly disciplined and physically demanding sport that combines dance, baton twirling, and precision movement. It requires teamwork, stamina, and creativity, making it both challenging and rewarding for athletes.

For Mauer and De Lange, these accomplishments reflect years of dedication, and their success is a testament to the importance of majorettes as a sport that builds confidence, fitness, and community spirit.
