A simple question — “How can we help?” — has sparked a heartwarming act of kindness among the residents of Stirling Lodge.

After an inspiring talk by Frere Hospital paediatric unit head Dr Kim Harper, during a recent University of the Third Age general meeting, resident Ann King felt compelled to act.

Learning that premature babies at the hospital needed warm beanies, she rallied her fellow residents, and within just three weeks, they had knitted more than 90 tiny beanies, along with newborn-sized caps, Mother Teresa vests, and even a pair of miniature booties.

Their generosity doesn’t stop there. The Stirling Lodge knitters have a long history of crafting for those in need, supplying beanies to a missionary in Lesotho, bedsocks and warm items to Choc and Silver Crown, and jerseys for children’s homes.

Even after the collapse of Jersey Week, they continued knitting to ensure children stay warm.

The spirit of giving extends further, with residents enthusiastically donating scarves, knee rugs, and other essentials to Home from Home, collected by Denise Iken.

With their needles clicking and hearts full, these dedicated women prove that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
