In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, East London’s healthcare community has united to raise awareness and show solidarity with those affected by the disease.
East Coast Radiology’s Project Hope and Nurture Rehab Beacon Bay’s “Pink Walk” have spearheaded initiatives to support patients, survivors, and promote preventative practices.
The Pink Walk, organised by Nurture Rehab, took place today and saw the healthcare team, including social worker Chrislynn Moonieyan, walk together in Beacon Bay to promote breast cancer awareness. Moonieyan highlighted the team’s shared commitment to wellness, encouraging colleagues and the public to practice self-examinations and seek regular screenings.
Moonieyan said: “We work with cancer patients daily, and some have personal connections to the disease. This walk allows us to support each other and spread awareness.”
At East Coast Radiology, Project Hope is collecting donated bras for women in need, including mastectomy bras and prostheses.
Project Hope representative Brenda Slabbert said: “Our goal is to make a difference in women’s lives while spreading awareness about breast cancer.”
Project Hope is a collaboration with medical supplier Roland Toogood and aims to support women through donations to St Bernard’s Hospice, helping those in need across East London.
Members of the public are invited to donate bras to the following drop-off points; Roland Toogood Medical Orthotist/ Prosthetist, Madison’s Market Online and Studio, Pam Golding Beach Road, Bolton and Associates on Gately Street, Sculptures Hair Design, Hemingways Mall information kiosk, Laerskool Ooskus Gimnasium, Centre of Excellence Primary School, Bonza Bay Rotary Anns, Fit and Functional Personal Training Studio, Brodi Deere and Ziyaad Thebus Personal Trainers.
These initiatives remind the community that through unity and small acts of kindness, real change can happen.
