The East London Fine Arts Society is gearing up to officially open its annual exhibition to showcase the work of various talented individuals.
The exhibition has no theme, which allows artists to express themselves without limitations.
This year’s exhibition features stunning pieces created by 45 talented local artists such as Bernadette Taylor, Peter Midlane, Sandy Thomas, Nosipho Booi, Melgan Luvo, Siphamandla Mlisa, Andile Sigwam and Stephanie Frauenstein.
Award-winning Japanese artist Tracey Chen also has a few pieces on display.
This year’s exhibition also includes art work made by Walter Sisulu University students and artists from as far away as Qonce, Bathurst and Makanda.
Taylor said this exhibition was necessary for the local art space, as it gave the public the chance to show support and appreciation for local creators.
“We encourage the public to support artists in our communities, by purchasing artworks, and in so doing encourage the growth and future of fine art as an essential part of humanity,” Taylor said.
Ann Bryant Art Gallery curator Leon du Preez said the East London Fine Art Society had a long history and each year the annual exhibition has created a wonderful community of art lovers.
“The society was established in 1925 and has a long-lasting legacy. The exhibition encourages emerging and established artists and creates a network that embraces the art community in East London,” Du Preez said.
The exhibition will run in the main hall at the Ann Bryant Art Gallery from Saturday November 30 to Monday December 9. Entry is free
