The Christmas rush is upon us again!
Take a break and spend an afternoon relaxing as Viva Musica Ensemble presents their last concert of the year.
The programme includes well known works by Schubert and Tchaikovsky as well as a few pieces with a Christmas theme.
Classical music holds a timeless power to evoke deep emotions, and its connection to Christmas is especially profound. The rich harmonies and intricate melodies of composers like Tchaikovsky and Schubert often mirror the warmth and nostalgia of the season.
Pieces such as The Nutcracker Suite or Schubert’s Ave Maria have become synonymous with holiday celebrations, capturing the essence of joy, peace, and reflection. Christmas-themed classical works remind us of shared traditions, fostering unity and the spirit of giving.
They create an atmosphere of wonder, transporting listeners to a place of serenity amidst the festive bustle. This concert promises to kindle that magical Christmas spirit through the beauty of timeless music.
The guest artist is Marina Pienaar, a former Stirling High School pupil, who blossomed under the tutorship of Leoni Johl.
Pienaar later studied music with great success at the University of Stellenbosch and the Royal College of Music in London and she has distinguished herself as a soprano both in SA and abroad.
She will be singing popular works by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Mascagni and Andrew Lloyd Webber. She will be accompanied on piano by Jacques du Plessis who is well known in East London as an accomplished and highly respected musician. East Londoners are in for a real musical treat.
The concert takes place at Stirling Presbyterian Church in Cecil Lloyd Street at 3pm on December 7.
There is no entry fee but there will be a collection in aid of the Berea Gardens Foundation.
Car guards will be in attendance. It’s going to be a magical afternoon and the organisers look forward to seeing you there.
