Detective miniseries is ideal for binge watching

Crime, thriller

The latest detective thriller series, Missing You, is packed with plot twists and innovative storylines neatly summed up in only five episodes, making it the perfect show for weekend binging.

Based on a novel by author Harlan Coben, the show explores a story with themes of crime, betrayal and deception as Detective Kat Donovan (played by Rosalind Eleazar) unravels the sickening plot involving her family and friends, that has upended her life.

Donovan’s  fiancé Josh Buchanan (played by Ashley Walters), the love of her life, packed his bags and left her with no explanation, leaving her devastated. Eleven years later, while swiping profiles on a dating app, she sees his face and her world explodes all over again. Josh’s reappearance happens as she investigates her father’s murder, leading to the revelation of buried family secrets and Josh’s unfortunate connection to it all.

Missing You is a gripping thriller series that stands out for its straight to the point story.

The narrative avoids unnecessary dragging and spends every moment of its screentime exploring the story.

Each episode unravels a new mysterious plot point, solves it and introduces a new one to be solved in the next episode.

Viewers are able to watch the investigation from Donovan’s perspective. A role like this requires good acting and Eleazar brings her A game.

We feel the emotional turmoil she feels as she finds out the extent of the secrets and betrayal from her friends and family. She make questionable decisions, but that’s what makes her character so interesting.

While the final episode provides a rather predictable ending, it still evokes strong emotions from the viewers.

There are some plot points in the story that feel misplaced. The plot of the dog-breeder is a perfect example, the show spends a lot of time introducing him and discussing his plans, but the show ends without explaining his relevance.

Beyond that, the show is entertaining and will keep viewers at the edge of their seats. At around 40 minutes per episode, Missing You is the perfect show to binge over the weekend.

Missing You is available for streaming on Netflix.
