Centrestage brings the ‘magnificent’ sound of ‘80s back to Guild Theatre

Centrestage is set to electrify East London with The Magnificent ‘80s, a spectacular tribute to a dozen iconic bands, at the Guild Theatre on Friday February 28 at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday March 1 at 2.30pm.

Featuring the renowned Centrestage All-Star Band — a 13-piece ensemble showcasing the Eastern Cape’s top musical talent — The Magnificent ‘80s promises a high-energy return to the decade that brought us neon fashion and mullet hairstyles

The show is a carefully curated journey through the decade’s most iconic hits, recreating timeless classics from bands like The Eurythmics, Wham!, The Bangles, Huey Lewis, The Pretenders, Bob Marley and Roxette with stunning accuracy.

In true Centrestage tradition, The Magnificent ‘80s is more than a concert — it’s an interactive experience which creates memories as much as reliving them — so whether you’re reliving your youth or discovering these classics for the first time, it’s impossible not to be swept up in the fun.

“East London has long been home for Centrestage over the past 20 years,” owner Gary Hemmings said. “Performing at the Guild Theatre is always a highlight for us, and we’re excited to bring this incredible show to an audience that has embraced us as their own.”

The cast includes powerhouse vocalist Kaylin du Plessis, Centrestage veteran Tara-Jane Stern, rising star Thuba Myeki, and musical director and guitarist Hugo Kleinhans, along with his “Big Man and Bear” singing partner Megan du Toit and Andrew Warneke on bass.

The vibrant ‘Horny Section’, featuring Shaun Lyon on trumpet, Curtis Kettledas on saxophone, and Tiago Vital on trombone, adds a bold and authentic brass sound to the show.

Drummer Gino Fabbri steps forward as Billy Idol in standout performances of Rebel Yell and Mony Mony.

East London’s own Rory McLaren makes a triumphant return to Centrestage after a decade-long hiatus, showcasing his extraordinary keyboard and vocal talents.

Don’t miss this chance to relive the music that defined a generation! Join The Magnificent ‘80s — a night of nostalgia, celebration, and world-class entertainment.

Tickets costing R250 for the Friday performance and R220 for the Saturday matinee are available through Computicket.
