What nail services do you offer at Polish Me Pretty?
I offer gel overlays on fingers and toes, as well as everything else on my price list.
How and when did you start your nail business?
When I was in my matric year in 2019, I started doing people’s nails in my mom’s lounge.
What inspired you to enter the beauty and nail industry?
When I was growing up, I was a real little girl that loved painting people’s nails, and realised quickly that this is what I want to do in my life, and have always believed people should follow their dreams. Do what you love and love what you do, that has always been my motto.
Do you work alone, or do you have a team?
I work alone at the moment.
How has the support from the public been for your business since you started?
I have grown my business over the years and have roughly 250 clients so far so I have great support from my clientele.
What are the top three most important things you prioritise in your nail services?
Maintaining proper hygiene because cleanliness is crucial to prevent the buildup of dirt bacteria and fungi that can lead to infections and other problems. Good prepping of the nails before you start the applications is important too. Customer satisfaction is important to me. I always offer advice to my clients with regards to their nail care, colour and designs.
What nail trends or styles are currently popular?
Many of my clients love nail artwork. It is becoming more popular rather than plain nails.
Are there any challenges you have encountered and how do you overcome them?
Yes, there are always challenges with competition, but I believe if your price is right and you uphold a certain standard of work, your customer base will only grow. In the same breath, however, I believe there’s enough business out there for everybody.
What are some of the goals or future plans you have for Polish Me Pretty?
My goals are to grow more and eventually double my customer base and accommodate more clients that need after-hour appointments.
What advice do you have for someone who is also interested in starting their own nail business?
‘Embrace your NailVolution’, meaning start where you are with what you have and trust that your skills will develop and refine with time to stand out from competition.
