Four of the province’s most popular comedians are joining forces to host a night of laughter at the Guild Theatre on Saturday May 4.
The Heavyweights of Comedy show will feature Rob van Vuuren, Kagiso KG Mokgadi, Khanyisa ‘JamJam the Comedian’ and Carvin Goldstone perform some of their best jokes for their East London supporters.
These four comedians have each built solid careers for themselves in the comedy space and this collaboration will bring their different audiences together for a night of blended humour.
Van Vuuren shared his excitement at returning to the Guild Theatre with his industry friends after many years.
“I used to live just outside of East London as a child and the first theatre I ever went to be the Guild so really couldn’t be more excited to return! And I get to share the stage with some of my favourite comedians.
“There is a huge amount of love and respect on this line up (and not just because they are big guys). They’re honestly three of my favourite acts to watch and three of my favourite people to hang out,” Van Vuuren said.
Mokgadi says audiences can expect multi-award-winning stand up. He is particularly excited to perform in front of East London audiences.
“I take jokes very seriously. We are going to have loads of fun. I wish there were more comedy rooms in East London. I have never had a bad night here. The last time I was in East London was just after the pandemic with Rob van Vuuren and Stuart Taylor. None of us wanted to get off stage,” Mokgadi said.
JamJam the Comedian, who recently won the breakthrough act of the year at the recent Comics Choice Comedy Awards, says this show will be extra special for him because he will be on stage performing with his brothers, with his family in the audience.
“It’s going to be a great show; the lineup is one of the best in the country and the audience will feel that on the night. These are my comedy brothers and mentors so it’s a proper privilege and great opportunity to work with the best in the business. Personally it means a lot because my family will be there. Professionally it means I’m starting to perform and hang with the best comics so I’m in good company,” JamJam said.
Goldstone is known for his sharp observational humour and clean, family-friendly sets that have earned him recognition across Africa and beyond. Van Vuuren, a household name in SA entertainment, brings his trademark high-energy performance and physical comedy that leaves audiences in stitches.
