Hudson Park Primary’s U11A rugby team has achieved their third consecutive title victory in the Lilyfontein 7s Rugby Festival.
The boys delivered a dominant performance, winning all four matches — three of them without relinquishing a single point.
Speaking after the victory, head of Hudson Park rugby, Dwaine Bowles, described the win as “the cherry on the cake” for a team which has gone unbeaten in 26 matches this season, including lifting the prestigious Richard Kent Trophy earlier in the year.
“There was no strategy or focus per se,” Bowles said “The goal was to just enjoy the occasion, have fun and for the boys to get a feel for the different variation of the game.”
Most of the players were unfamiliar with the fast-paced 7s format but quickly adjusted.
“They were quick to grasp the concept of how 7s rugby works,” he said.
Bowles commended the team’s defensive grit, saying: “Everyone can attack in rugby, but not everyone can defend. That mindset of giving nothing away to the opposition was evident throughout the tournament.”
He praised their collective effort and spirit over individual brilliance: “There were no stand-out players. The boys played for each other.”
This victory for Hudson Park Primary school reflects a bigger vision: “We try to instill the values of the game, building respectful young boys through rugby.”
A well-deserved festival victory rounded off an outstanding season.
