Stirling Interact continues to live up to the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” after the club recently carried out a heartfelt outreach project that touched two corners of the community.
The club donated 180 packets of sanitary pads to AW Barnes Primary School.
The pupils drove to Breath of Life and delivered a collection of knitted items, including 15 beanies, four blankets, four jerseys, and five sets of baby jerseys, booties and beanies.
Breath of Life is a sanctuary for vulnerable babies and mothers in crisis.
Club marketing brand ambassador Candi Ferreira said they wanted to express compassion for others in need.
Outreach at the school is a long-standing tradition.
She said they conducted outreach projects every year.
“We love reaching out to our communities and serving those in need,” she said.
The club carefully considered its beneficiaries. “We chose Breath of Life because of the care and support they provide for mothers and babies in need, and AW Barnes Primary because we wanted to support young pupils and make a difference in their school lives.”
The knitted items were joyously received. The house mom said: “We are so grateful. These knitted items that will keep the babies warm. It is important for young pupils to be exposed to this field of giving, as there are so many people in need of essentials. It is heart-warming.”
At AW Barnes Primary, headmaster Hardav Narain said: “We are truly grateful for the donation of pads, as we come from a disadvantaged community.”
She said: “The girls will no longer be stressed about not attending school due to not having pads. This will give them a reason to stay in school.”
In giving, Stirling’s pupils are themselves learning. One of the lessons was how to be a decent leader.
Ferreira said: “We hope our peers and the community see the importance of service, compassion and kindness. Even small acts of giving can bring hope and change lives.”
The project taught teamwork, responsibility and organisation. Youths grew in confidence.
“Leading tasks, planning events and working with others, grows our leadership skills.
“At times, it was a challenge to collect enough donations, but through teamwork and encouraging others to give, we reached our goal,” Ferreira said.
“We are committed to serving our community and making a positive impact wherever we can.”
