COLLEEN STEP
Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate with a flowering of music!
Viva Musica Ensemble and music teacher Joy Sparg will present a double-header for their spring concert on Saturday September 20 at the Stirling Presbyterian Church.
Viva Musica will perform well loved favourite, Mascagni’s beautiful Intermezzo Sinfonico, which tugs at the heartstrings and Cole Porter’s joyful I Love Paris.
Joy, a local high school music teacher, will be entertaining the audience with a variety of songs from The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady.
Joy is an accomplished musician who specialised in singing performance and participated in opera galas and concerts while at Stellenbosch University where she attained her B.Mus Hon (cum laude). She will be accompanied by her mother Natalie Sparg, also a music teacher and who, no doubt, nurtured her daughter’s talent.
But not one, not two, but three musical groups will be playing.
The string quartet, Ariopus, will be plucking up a storm.
They have played together for a decade, and have a repertoire ranging from classical masterpieces to pop hits.
Ariopus is Dalena Mostert (first violin), Waldo Wentzel (second violin), Jacques du Plessis (viola) and Wendy Benito (cello).
They will perform fabulous compositions by Mozart and Handel with some rocking modern pieces thrown in.
This will be a wonderful afternoon of music — you will all be looking for your socks after the final note has been drawn.
There is no entry fee but a collection will be taken in aid of The Manor House.
