Young EL dance crew thrilled to dance at Disney World

Seven young East London dancers, aged nine to 13, are gearing up for the performance opportunity of a lifetime, as they head to Disney World Orlando from December 10 to 15.

The talented group — Gianna Lewis, 13, Keegan Ranwell, 13, Mia Zanoncelli, 14, Charlie Hand, 9, Emma-Marie Ross, 9, Carla Toich, 9 and Chelsea Hand, 10 — earned their places after impressing at workshops hosted by Dance Connection in partnership with Dance the World Events.

They will perform in the world-famous Magic Kingdom parade, take to the stage at Disney Springs, and appear in a special production inside the Finding Nemo Theatre. They’ll also take part in masterclasses led by celebrity choreographers.

Dance Connection co-founder Colranie Botha said: “It’s not easy to get this opportunity. Being able to say you’ve performed in Disney World — in Magic Kingdom, in a parade, and inside a Disney theatre — is huge.

“This group is exceptional. They’re passionate, energetic and work incredibly well together.”

Jo Jackson, founder of Jo Jackson Dance Co said: “It’s a big deal. Disney World is a massive platform and the exposure is fantastic.”

The internet is being used in the preparations. The dancers have been on Zoom taking part in weekly rehearsals with performers from around the world, refining choreography and building stamina. Among them, Chelsea Hand received a full sponsorship package from Dance the World Events for her standout audition.

Ross said she could not wait to perform in front of thousands at Disney.

“I am most excited to dance in the parade. I’m also excited to meet all the dancers and perform with them.”

Toich said the stage show was her highlight.

“That’s when everything lights up, the smiles, the big moves. I can’t wait.”

Zanoncelli said she has been preparing diligently.

“We have been having Zoom lessons every Sunday. We all know the choreography for the stage show and the parade through Magic Kingdom. I’ve also been watching Disney parades to see what to expect.”

For some families, the trip is a shared dream come true.

Toich’s mother, Megan, said: “We’ll forever cherish this time as a family.

“This journey has been such an incredible opportunity. We’ve always dreamed of taking our children to Disney World. When the chance came along, it felt like the stars aligned.”

Keegan Ranwell sees the Disney World showing as the perfect launchpad for his future.

“My dream is to have a future in the dance industry, and this opportunity is an amazing starting point.”

His mother, Vonnie, has watched him grow through dance. “Dance has helped shape Keegan’s confidence by teaching him discipline, commitment, perseverance, resilience and pride in his ability,” she said.

“Performing has made him more comfortable expressing himself and working with others,” Ranwell said.

Dance Connection has confirmed that auditions for the 2026 Disney season will open early next year, giving more local dancers a chance to follow in their footsteps.

As departure day approaches, the East London community will be cheering them on.
