Enjoy family fun day at Thornycroft Lodge & Spa

Thornycroft Lodge & Spa will host a vibrant Family Fun Day this Friday, bringing together entertainment, wellness, and community-driven experiences in a tranquil outdoor setting.

The event will feature a full programme of activities for all ages, including live music, a DJ, children’s games, food vendors, sack races, water balloon challenges, “fishing for sweets,” an apple game, and face painting.

Guests will also have access to the lodge’s wellness offerings, including a raffle draw with spa treatment prizes.

Located in Horseshoe Valley near KuGompo City, Thornycroft Lodge & Spa has positioned itself as more than just a leisure destination, offering integrated accommodation, wellness, dining, and event services.

Manager Loyiso Mpongwana said the Family Fun Day was designed to foster community connection, while creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

“This event is about bringing people together. We also want to support young entrepreneurs running businesses from home by giving them a platform to showcase and market their products.

“This exposure can help them grow into sustainable businesses,” he said.

Mpongwana said there was a growing need for safe, family-oriented recreational spaces.

“We want parents to feel confident that this is a safe and welcoming environment where their children can enjoy themselves.”

The spa component of the event will feature specially curated wellness packages.

Beauty therapist Lungi Sidubulekana said the treatments were designed to combine relaxation with therapeutic benefits.

A couples’ package, ideal for a romantic getaway, includes a foot soak or back scrub, a full-body massage, and sauna access for R650.

Individual packages include a foot wash, full-body massage, and a complimentary beverage.

Additional specials on the day will include discounted rates on pedicures, full back massages, and neck and shoulder treatments.

“Professional treatments are not just about luxury — they support muscle recovery, improve circulation, and reduce stress, especially for active individuals and athletes,” Sidubulekana said.

Mpongwana said the lodge’s natural setting was central to its appeal.

“We are not competing on noise or volume — we offer a unique, peaceful environment.

“When you wake up here, you hear birds, not traffic. That tranquillity enhances both the wellness experience and overall guest stay.”

In addition to its lodge offering, Thornycroft Camp caters to larger groups seeking affordable accommodation. The camp is designed for church groups, school outings, and sports teams, providing a nature-based experience where guests wake up to scenic views and abundant birdlife.

The facility consists of four dormitories, each accommodating up to 20 guests on bunk beds, with shared ablution facilities including showers, toilets, and basins. To maintain affordability, guests are required to bring their own bedding and towels.

Midweek promotions are also available at the lodge, including a free night when guests book three nights, as well as value-added perks such as complimentary massages or breakfast on selected packages.

The Family Fun Day is expected to attract families, entrepreneurs, and those seeking relaxation, entertainment, and meaningful engagement.
