South African media personality Sidwell Ngwenya has stepped away from the noise of public life to embark on a solo road journey across SA, launching a new multi disciplinary personal storytelling project dubbed #SouthernExploration.
Officially announced by SID Records, the comprehensive project is anchored by a digital docu-reality series, an upcoming EP, and a self-exploration framework designed to combat rising levels of burnout and existential fatigue.
The open-access initiative follows Ngwenya on a solo trek through the country, using story-driven travel content to encourage conscious self-exploration, structured reflection, and aligned action in an era dominated by constant digital connectivity.
Reflecting on the motivation behind the initiative, Ngwenya said that the journey served as a vital moment for quiet introspection and career evaluation both in front of and behind the screen.
“Southern Exploration for me is a moment of peace to be myself again, away
from the noise,” Ngwenya said.
“It was a therapeutic time away from friends and family, searching for answers,
some I am yet to find. “Having travelled and covered 70% of this country, I was still blown away by places like Graaff-Reinet, home to the spectacular Valley of Desolation, and
Oudtshoorn, where the Cango Caves are a marvel to experience in person.”
By combining his visual storytelling and music background, Ngwenya has structured the project into two distinct yet complementary deliverables: the docuseries serves as a guide to finding clarity in solitude, while the accompanying EP champions creative collaboration.
The EP features joint efforts with artists Ngwenya has previously partnered with in production, alongside surprise acts.
“The music is very mature and global as it fuses different genres to come up with something unique,” Ngwenya said.
Established in 2005, independent record label SID Records has expanded its portfolio beyond music production into event management, artist management, and content consultancy.
Over the past two decades, the label has collaborated with prominent South African music icons including Mandoza, Lebo Mathosa, Lulo Café, Speedsta, Thabsie, and Kwesta.
Episodes of the #SouthernExploration docu-reality series are rolling out weekly across
