Brian Ndevu has made history by being the first East London-born presenter at the helm of Algoa FM’s Drive show for the Border area.
Ndevu will officially take over from Gordon Graham who has been with the station for 20 years and is leaving the station to pursue his love for sports presenting.
Ndevu , from Mdantsane, hosted the Breakfast Show on TruFM after returning to the province three years ago, before joining Algoa FM. “The audience is different and obviously the station is different, but I am enjoying my time at the station so far,” he said.
He joined Algoa FM last month and has been co-presenting with Graham, who leaves the station at the end of next month.
“I like the time I am spending with Gordon, because he has been introducing me to the listeners and showing me the ropes. I was never thrown into the deep end. He is a legend,” Ndevu said.
Algoa FM operations director Alfie Jay said: “Brian is one of the young lions who has returned to the Eastern Cape to make a difference after making a name for themselves in Johannesburg.”
In Johannesburg, he worked as a continuity presenter and sports commentator on SABC television. He also had a successful career in public relations, which included a stint as the head of PR and communications for the Premier Boxing League.
Though he has had stints on television, he confessed that his first love has always been radio. “You interact with the listeners and I love that,” he said.
Graham said: “I’ve listened to his show on a number of occasions and I love the way he interacts with his audience. He is personable and I am confident that our listeners will warm to him very quickly.”
