Among the four finalists are East London’s Salem Baby Care Centre, which provides needy mothers and children with basic food and hygiene needs, and the Rising Sun Daycare Centre, a creche started by Nozie Mswi in 2013, which offers a safe haven for 30 little faces in the Duncan Village area.

Other finalists include The Carel Du Toit Centre for the deaf and Emthonjeni Wokuphila Community Development for the elderly, both prominent carers of vulnerable individuals within the East London community.

All four finalists will receive a prize of R40000 to support the good work they do within the community. Each finalist will also have a chance to share their story with guests and partners at the awards breakfast and to be voted as the overall winner, and win additional prize money.

“The Forgood Inspiration Awards is an event on the East London calendar designed to celebrate the wonderfully inspiring work individuals and organisations are doing in our communities,” Inspiration Awards administrator Brad Taylor said.

The awards theme for the year has been “better together”, encouraging partnerships and collaborations between NGOs (non-government organisations), other organisations and businesses.

“The event aims to create opportunities for NGOs, government, faith-based organisations and companies to partner and synergise their efforts towards promoting good and making a difference in our society,” Taylor said.

“We are humbled by the inspirational roles people are playing in our society and congratulations go to the four finalists for the inspiring work they are doing within our community.

“Our vision is to see our region become known throughout the country as a municipality that actively partners together to promote untold good done throughout our communities.”

The Forgood Inspiration Awards breakfast will be held at the Mercedes-Benz visitors centre on June 1. Tickets for the event can be purchased for R100 at Vodacom4U, Pearce Street, Berea.
