MDANTSANE City Shopping Centre will assist promising young performers to get the exposure they need when it hosts the Mdantsane leg of the Tru Talent Search, in partnership with youth radio station TruFM, from tomorrow.
As part of the radio station’s annual hunt for the Eastern Cape’s hottest young acts, the shopping centre is inviting undiscovered singers, dancers and radio presenters between the ages of 16 and 35 to take centre stage and, by doing so, stand a chance to win their share of R10000 in prize money.
This year marks the 10th edition of the popular talent contest and the Mdantsane City category winners will automatically go through to the finals of TruFM’s province-wide search later this year, where a recording deal, presenting contract and dance gig are up for grabs.
Mdantsane City marketing manager Wendy Zitha said there was an abundance of raw talent in the Mdantsane community and that the mall was proud to provide a platform to help launch potential careers.
“The youth are our future, therefore investing in their development is vital for any concerned citizen or institution.”
Although entrants must be 16 or older to be eligible for the prize money, Zitha said younger performers were still welcome to participate for the exposure and enjoyment.
Participants will perform in front of an audience of weekend shoppers – and a panel of judges – during the back-to-back audition round tomorrow and Saturday.
The winners in each category will grab a share of the prize money and advance through to the final show on July 22.
For the audition round, participants should bring their music on a USB or CD.
