Sponsored by Dennis Collins Jewellers, more than 200 guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast as well as delicious chocolates and sweet treats at the event.

The Reach for a Dream Foundation is dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children with life- threatening diseases.

The minimum cost for one child’s dream is R3800, making this event vital and one of the foundation’s biggest donors.

Nationally recognised baker and guest baker on South Africa’s Expresso show, Gabriella Esposito, was the guest speaker of the day.

Esposito shared her chocaholic journey with guests, explaining her passions and dreams and how she followed them to be where she is today.

Esposito studied a diploma in Fine Art Photography. Throughout her college years, Esposito established her online baking blog, “bakebygabi”, wrote, designed and photographed a cook book, and appeared as a guest baker on the Expresso show for the first time.

Coming from an Italian family of chefs, where life revolves around food and meal times, Esposito regards her “One and Only Chocolate cake” as the driving force behind her successes.

“Quite literally, my story would not have been possible without chocolate,” Esposito said.

After winning third place in the Sunday Times Food weekly competition with her famous chocolate cake in 2013, Esposito was recommended to the Expresso producers by the editor. Four years later, Esposito is the permanent guest baker on the Expresso show.

She has also been involved with various charity organisations including Sidewalk Specials, as well as various soup kitchens and safe houses.

The young baker hopes to launch her own organisation soon, in the hopes of helping as many people as she can.

“I am so honoured to be the guest speaker and support this wonderful organisation make children’s dreams come true.”

The event saw Esposito demonstrate how to make an alcoholic hot chocolate and a few guests were lucky enough to taste the orange liqueur- infused drink.

Lucky-draw and raffle prizes included two of Esposito’s cook books, as well as various weekend getaways donated by guest houses and resorts along the Wild Coast.

The grand prize in the lucky draw was a pair of Dennis Collins Jewellers tanzanite earrings worth R21000. Through ticket sales, raffle ticket sales and individual donations, a total R97500 was raised for the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

“We are very happy to be supporting such a worthy cause and contributing to the fulfilment of so many dreams. We are extremely grateful to everyone who made this day possible,” Dennis Collins said.
