“Our aim is to clean the area of pollution that otherwise finds its way into the sea, as well as making people aware that beach clean-ups can be initiated by anybody who would like to make a difference,” Gonubie Harrier Marianne Reabow said.

The club, which have held annual beach clean-ups for the past two years, also promote their annual run as a “green run”.

“We no longer use water sachets that are tossed down by the runners along our route,” Reabow said.

On their annual Coastal Challenge route, the club makes use of reusable plastic cups instead of plastic water sachets. This eliminates unnecessary plastic waste and prevents littering along the beach and forest area route.

The club members will be meeting on the grass across from 23 Burnett Street, Gonubie and encourage the public to attend. For more information, contact Reabow at marianne@gwealth.co.za
