THE Jan Smuts Stadium is slowly falling apart due to poor maintenance by the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, the Go! & Express reported today.
The facilities are mostly used by the BCM for athletics and other sport codes.
Border Athletics this week expressed concern about the state of the stadium with the chairman of track and field, Dumisani Nokenke, indicated they have been writing letters to BCM about the condition of the stadium without a response for the past six years.
BCM spokesperson, Bathandwa, Diamond, commented just after the Go! went to press.
“The municiopality is aware of the situation at the Jan Smuts Stadium, and as a result we are in a process of appointing a Professional Service Provider (PSP) for all sports facilities including Jan Smuts Stadium. The scope of work will include the design, safety measures and upgrading of lights.”
