Tuks rowers reign at Buffalo Regatta

THE 131st Buffalo Regatta in East London over the weekend had the University of Pretoria (Tuks) rowers dominating on the Buffalo River over three sunny days.

More than 200 races took place with more than 1000 competitors from South African schools, clubs and universities taking part.

Winning the sought after Silver Sculls trophy for the Senior A Single Sculls event was University of Pretoria’s (Tuks) Vaughn Botes.

Tuks also bagged the Buffalo Grand Challenge trophy with their Senior A Coxless Fours made up of crew members, Sandro Torrente, John Smith, David Hunt and Kyle Schoonbee, coming first in 5:33 minutes.

The Senior Women’s Single Sculls race was won by Tuks’ Megan Hancock, with the university also taking first place in the Senior Women’s Coxless Fours made up of crew members, Jessica King, Charissa Prinsloo, Alexandra Savenye Terblanche and Jessica Schoonbee.

The popular 500m Selborne Schools Sprint Regatta, also taking place during the Buffalo Regatta was won by SACS High School.
