Algoa FM radio presenter, Brian Ndevu, went back to his roots by donating 87 pairs of school shoes to his former primary school, Vulumzi Primary School in Mdantsane recently.
Teacher of the school Ndileka Dastile, said they were excited and overwhelmed by what Ndevu did.
“We are happy to see him again, he was once a pupil at this school, and I am humbled and proud of his achievements, and of giving back to the community that groomed him into the person the he is today”, said Dastile.
Ndevu was equally excited of going back to where it all started for him; “ this is very special for me, and it is an awesome feeling being able to give back to my community in Mdantsane”, said Ndevu.
Marketing executive of Algoa FM, Ndileka Gysman, said the donation of the school shoes was made possible by Rebosis Property Fund and Algoa Cares.
“A call for donations to support the little steps towards big dreams at Vulumzi Primary School was made by the residents of Mdantsane; all of them were asked to kindly donate new or used school shoes that are still in good condition, at Mdantsane City Shopping Centre,”said Gysman.
“The slogan we used, Little Steps towards dreams, is a metaphor for the pupils, as they comment on their future career plans. They are at a young and ambitious age and “big dreams” is a play on their ambition.”
“Thanks to Mdantsane, Rebosis Property Fund and Algoa Cares, as all of the grade one to four pupils who required shoes have had their needs fulfilled,” concluded Gysman.
