THE Amakhosi Masters Swimming Club held its 29th annual 1km challenge at the Joan Harrison Swimming Pool on Saturday and 64 swimmers took part in the challenge.

“It was a beautiful, calm morning which started off sunny but became overcast towards mid-morning and the pool temperature was a very comfortable 23 degrees Celsius,” said organiser Sue Skidmore.

She said the conditions were perfect for swimming and the overall winner was the 16 year old, Josh Reeves, who swam the 1km in a mere 13:16:44.

The overall female winner was 14 year old Pippa Sparg, who swam it in 15:01:00.

“Congratulations to both of them! The oldest swimmer on the day was Mr Ron Wallace, who is 77 and swam the 1km in a time of 23:56:04,” added Skidmore.

“Special mention must be made of the municipal staff and lifeguards who made sure that the pool and the pool complex was in tip-top shape. All the swimmers commend the Joan Harrison staff for a great effort,” she concluded.

The total proceeds of R3701.00 were donated to Therese Dickson towards medical expenses.
