The Inspiration Awards strive to recognise inspiring work by organisations and individuals who make a difference in the community.

Over the past five years, more than 130 inspiring stories have been entered, with R1800000 awarded to deserving finalists at the annual Inspiration Awards breakfast.

The Inspiration Awards breakfast, which will be held at Mercedes-Benz on May 17, will see four finalists receive R40000 each for their inspiring work.

The four finalists will stand a chance of being voted as the most inspirational story which will also receive the proceeds of ticket sales from the event.

In order to qualify for the awards, entrants need to write a 150-word profile introducing their organisation or group, and a 100-word motivational letter indicating how the prize money will contribute to their work in the community.

Entrants are also required to prepare a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation giving an overview of their organisation, as well as the inspirational work they do and how it has benefited the community.

Last year’s event saw Rising Sun Daycare, run by Nozi Mswi, voted as the most inspiring story and win more than R75000.

In the months following the Inspiration Awards, the prize money was used to pay stipends, ensure the 35 children attending the crechè received two meals daily and to replace the torn and dangerous flooring inside the building.

Through the Inspiration Awards Breakfast, Rising Sun Daycare also received numerous donations, including the construction of a fitted kitchen, by various individuals and businesses.

“Thank you to all who made the Inspiration Awards happen, and for all the good that has come to Rising Sun Daycare because of it. It has made a real difference in our lives and in the lives of the children who attend our crechè,” Mswi said.

Salem Baby Care centre, Emthonjeni Wokuphila Centre for the Elderly and the Carel du Toit Centre were also finalists in the 2017 Inspiration Awards, benefiting immensely from the funds they received through the event.
