The third annual Touch a Soul 5km Charity Run will take place on September 21 at Oxford Striders in Nahoon.
Kempston events co-ordinator Nicole Barnes said the run started in 2016 when one of their colleagues was diagnosed with leukaemia.
“We decided on a fun run to raise money for our colleagues and that was how the charity run started,” Barnes said.
This year’s recipient is Charnelle Herbert, 17, who was diagnosed with congenital hydrocephalus (build up of excess fluid on the brain) at just two weeks old (“Brave fighter back on road to recovery”, GO! & Express, August 16 2018)
Herbert is recuperating from emergency surgery last Thursday, where they removed the VA shunt that diverted the cerebrospinal fluid from the brain via her external jugular vein directly to the right side of her heart.
Entrants can bring their R50 on the day and place it in the donation box.
