Blessings From Me To You turns two

The Blessings From Me To You Facebook group which has brought together strangers to assist their community, celebrated it’s second birthday on Saturday.

The drive was started in 2016 by Louise Leendertz Torr after she heard a devastating story of a woman who had lost her belongings due to heavy rain.

“I was an Administrator on the Facebook page Crime Spotter at Buffalo City when I heard about a woman who was left devastated after being kicked out with a little one who was only two. Her furniture and clothing were all damaged due to the heavy rain,” she said.

The group has made great strides in bringing the community through Facebook to assist the needy.

To celebrate their birthday, children from less fortunate homes visited for a fun-filled day.

“For our birthday, we had massive support from the Godfrey family who supplied eight cakes and chips, All Things Cake who made our main cake, and we also had two anonymous donors who helped by donating 100 hotdogs. All in all we had a marvellous birthday,” said Torr.

She added that although Blessings From Me To You managed to feed many people from as far as King William’s Town, it still needed the community’s help.

“Our problem is that we need more community people to be involved by helping us with food items as we supply food parcels every second week to families. Our plans for the future are to create great self-sustainability so we can reach many more people,” she said.
