Splash out with lifesaving skills

The Nippers division of the East London Lifesaving Club – , a lifesaving club aimed at children aged eight to 13, thirteen, was in full swing last Sunday.

Nippers chair Gregg Tarr said they aimed to train children in sea safety as they were the lifeguards for of tomorrow.

“We do have lots of beach sprints, long runs, and teach them to ride on with a Malibu board, to paddle in the waves, as well as body boarding,” Tarr said.

There are competitions that the club participates in various competitions, in such as the Lifesaving Eastern Cape (LEC) Nipper Provincial Championships and the Lifesaving SA National Nipper Championships.

Often, the youngsters move on to being part of the East London Lifesaving Club where quite a few turn out to be SA representatives.

Operational during the summer season, the Nippers youngsters meet every Sunday from 10am to 12pm at Nahoon Beach.
