Gale takes wind out of fundraiser

Lilyfontein School’s under-13 cricket team held a parkrun on Saturday at 2 Swans to raise funds for their cricket tour to the UK in 2019. United Kingdom next year.

Lilyfontein marketing manager Lisa Vvan Wyk said the tour would last 12 twelve nights and will include watching the Cricket World Cup at Lords when the Proteas face Pakistan.

“The team will be staying in London for two nights, then going to Bath and Taunton to play three games, then going on to the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon to play a few more games.

“They will then go down towards Oxford to Windsor, then come back home,” said Van Wyk.

The team is hoping to organise a game against Eton College.

“Due to the terrible gale-force winds, it which kept many people indoors, we only raised R3,600 with . We had 54 runners partaking on Saturday afternoon.

“The tour will cost each player R35,000, so if there are any people or companies out there that would like to donate, kindly contact us,” said Van Wyk.

“We will have another 5km run/walk again in the not-too-distant future. We will also have a few stalls at the 2 Swans Christmas Market on December 19,” she said.
