One missing, one transported to hospital in Nahoon beach drowning

At 10:30am on Saturday December 08, NSRI East London duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Nahoon Beach.

NSRI rescue runner Lotto Rescuer responded along with sea rescue craft Spirit of DHL and NSRI rescue swimmers.

They were joined by the SAPS K-9 Search and Rescue, EC health EMS, an EMS helicopter and Alderson’s Ambulance.

Upon arrival, NSRI joined a BCM lifeguard on the scene where one man was out the water, believed to have been rescued by surfers. He was transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition having suffered non-fatal drowning symptoms and an extensive air, sea and shoreline search was conducted for the remaining 25 year-old male who was witnessed being swept out to sea by rip currents before disappearing under water.

Despite an extensive search, no sign of the missing man was found and the SAPS, a police dive unit and a K-9 search and rescue team are continuing the search operation.

Police have opened an investigation.
