Last Saturday saw hundreds of eager runners and paddlers descend on the East London beachfront for the 2019 edition of the annual Discovery Surfers Challenge, previously known as the Surfers Marathon.
The race consisted of four separate events: a 5km Juniors race for runners under 13 years old, a 10km run-walk, a 17.5km run-walk, and a 17.5km paddle.
The finish line for each event was Nahoon Beach where a large crowd was ready to welcome the worn-out athletes.
Thel male winner was Bulelani Mgubo who finished with a time of one hour, nine minutes, and 48 seconds while the female winner was Jessica Pollock who finished in one hour 22 minutes.
